VERMILION LAKE TWP— Emergency responders transported three individuals to hospital here on Wednesday after the second T-bone car crash at the Y Store intersection in the past month. The accident occurred just before 8 a.m. on Nov. 19, when an elderly driver from Thunder Bay tried to cross the intersection heading toward the Y Store. A northbound vehicle on Hwy. 169, driven by 29-year-old Maty Elaine Erie of Chisholm, was unable to stop and hit the crossing vehicle on the passenger’s side. Erie was transported with non-life-threatening injuries.
An 86-year-old passenger in the crossing vehicle, Shirley Ellen Sherlock, of Thunder Bay, and the 80-year-old driver, Dorothy Alice Mecleod, were also transported with non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles involved were Ford Fusions and airbags deployed in both cases, which likely helped prevent more serious injury.
Both the Tower and Virginia ambulances responded to the scene along with fire and first responders from Vermilion Lake, Breitung, and Greenwood. Both state patrol officers and St. Louis County deputies were also on the scene.
